After saying a few months ago, sensibly in my view, that he was concentrating on being a gardener and a grandfather, Paddy is choosing option 1.
After a couple of pints I would probably call him "mad" to take this option. But to be fair, let's just say that he has a sense of selfless public duty which I do not understand. And if Jane Ashdown is going with him, as I presume, then she deserves a medal.
