George W Bush is airbrushed in favour of his mother

There's a fascinating video report from Gary Younge here on the Guardian site.

It shows a stump speech from Mitt Romney in South Carolina. Romney comes across as remarkably "insubstantial" (Younge's word) and cribs a big chunk of his speech from Barack Obama ("change - change - Washington outsider"). He also dyes his hair.

What a depressingly shallow performance from one of the front runners!

The telling point comes when he lists his heroes. He says:

"I take my inspiration from people like Ronald Reagan and George Herbert Walker Bush....and Barbara Bush and Nancy Reagan".

Notice the very specific Bush that he says inspires him, and that he takes more inspiration from Barbara Bush than from George W Bush....

He knows how to hurt doesn't he?
