I put it to Chris Huhne this evening that someone like him, who drops words like "gaderene" and "amanuensis" into his sentences, needs to outline precisely how they will connect with Jo Public.
In answer, Chris pointed to the great strides ahead the Liberal Democrats have made on green issues since he has been environment spokesman. We have undermined Cameron on green issues through things like pointing out his shoe chauffeur and private jet use. We have taken on David Miliband while he was the government's lead spokesman on green issues.
And look at the Ipsos Mori poll trend. The one issue where the Liberal Democrats lead the other parties is on protecting the environment:
