Many congratulations indeed to Councillor Kuldip Singh Kang on being elected as Mayor of Newbury today.
Well done to him for inspiring a wonderful Civic Service at St Nicolas church this morning. Credit is also due to Reverend Paul Cowen (the Mayor's chaplain) and to Reverend David Stone, Rector of St Nics, for facilitating such a mixed and uplifting service. It was marvellous to see members of the local Sikh community in the church, as well as the participation of so many children and ordinary members of the St Nics congregations, enjoying their favourite hymns such as "Shine Jesus Shine".
Dr Jaspal Singh Sagoo read an extract from the Guru Granth Sahib which spoke about the need for selflessness in the service of others. That was quite topical.
