Cleggie & Co know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em....

This is damned impressive! This wizened old cynic is positively impressed. Nick Clegg's rating, according to the excellent Politicshome, has soared in the last few weeks from a position 16 points behind Cameron to just 4 points behind. Nick's performance on the Gurkhas and the expenses row seem to have rocket-boosted his profile in a very positive way.

I am also deeply impressed by Chris Fox, the party's communications dirctor. Not being a media professional, I can't put my finger on what has improved, but together with Cleggie, Mr Fox seems to have a developed a very sure-footed media strategy. In the words of the "Gambler" song, they seem to "know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away and know when to run" in terms of media engagement. In the Liberal Democrats this skill is something which has been lacking for many years and it is like a rainstorm after a drought to witness it.
