Iain Dale announces death of an un-named Scottish Labour MP....then retracts and apologises

Sometimes I am quite delighted that I turn off the internet in the evenings and watch things like re-runs of "Doc Martin". Last night I am glad that I missed the fatuous rumour that a Scottish Labour MP had died which got as far as a posting on Iain Dale's Diary. He removed the posting later when it transpired that an MP hadn't died - Scottish, Labour or otherwise.

You can see the genesis of this rumour and its.....er.....death on the comments thread of Political Betting here.

The title and the first few words of the post are on blogsearch.google.com (see screenshot above):

Another By Election Nightmare for Labour
14 hours ago by Iain Dale There are unconfirmed reports tonight that another Scottish Labour MP has died, causing a by election north of the border. More later...

Today Iain apologises for the incorrect posting with an admirable "mea culpa" entitled "Ballsed up"
