High Steward-watch

There's recently been brisk business for the Treasury appointments office concerning the offices of the Crown Steward and High Bailliff of the Chiltern Hundreds and the Manor of Northstead.

As of today, David Davis holds the office of the former and David Marshall holds the latter.

Presumably, when David Davis re-wins his seat, the post of CS and HB of the Chiltern Hundreds will be vacant until the next MP resigns, will it not? Presumably David Davis cannot continue to hold the office when he becomes an MP again - because being an employee of the crown (which the CS and HB of the CH is) disqualifies someone from being an MP.

The last time this happened, I think, was in 1985, when Enoch Powell and Rev William McCrea (although it says Robert McCrea on the House of Commons document about this) were the last in a long line of Ulster unionists holding these offices before being re-elected on 23rd January 1986. The two offices were presumably then vacant until being filled by Matthew Parris on 1st October 1986 and John Golding on 24th June 1986.
