A surprising but eliptical reference to Bush. (I'm grateful to our president for leading us in these dark days) I suppose he had to. But he couldn't bring himself to say the words "George Bush", or was advised not to, for fear of giving the Dems a handy video clip to play. He did say the words "Laura Bush" though.
McCain was a prisoner of war, apparently. Some clever use of the "town hall" format, and dealing with protesters. He'll be a maverick. (Another word for that is "impulsive". Never a sensible thing when you have a nuclear button on the arm of your chair). Palin has held the Russians off at the Bering Straits. She can kill a Moose with her bare hands. (Thank you BarbinMD), though sarcasm is Palin's weapon of choice. McCain wore lots of make-up for the speech.
No policy specifics, by the way. But, he's been in Washington for 26 years but never become a Washington insider. Quite a trick hey?
He delivered one great line:
Let me just offer an advance warning to the old, big-spending, do-nothing, me-first-country-second, Washington crowd: Change is coming.
Which was as resounding as it is totally false. John McCain is more of the same, especially in the area of Bush's most crtical failure: foreign policy.
McCain is Bush without the gym-toned fitness. McCain is Palin without the teeth.
