Sarah Palin and the art of meat head foreign policy

I've been reflecting on Sarah Palin's speech, having live blogged it while it was happening.

1. Michael Tomasky in the Guardian has summed it up nicely as a "can of whup-ass", adding the Democrats will now feel free to reply in kind. Of course, there has been no shortage of media and blogging comment about Palin, but the official Democrat campaign has been mooted (apart from one initial statement mentioning the phrase "small town mayor"). I look forward to some proper Democrat attacks, not on Palin's family, but on legitimate targets such as the investigation into her actions concerning the dismissal of her Commissioner of Public Safety. In particular, Palin's links with the Alaskan Independence Party are crying out for an attack ad. If there is any doubt about that, consider what the Republicans would do if it was discovered that Obama had, a few weeks ago, recorded a message for the "Illinois Independence Party" (if there was one) saying that he was "delighted to welcome them" to their annual convention. The GOP .would wreak a whirlwind on that one, so it is only right that the Dems go with the Palin AIP angle.

2. Although it was not immediately apparent, it is absolutely clear from Palin's speech that she would carry on the Bush failed foreign policy. By just giving foreign policy about four sentences and talking in Bush terms such as the need for "victory", this was crystal clear.

Let's be frank. Sarah Palin, on foreign affairs, is a sort of poor person's George Bush. The same old "meat head" thinking which got the US into its current mess.
