I'm a cynical hit-tarting old Hector

I have always watched Doctor Who, most of the time. I did literally hide behind the sofa during the Patrick Troughton and John Pertwee days. I occasionally watch it nowadays. The rest of my household are so hooked on it that they watch every episode about eight times and have watched each Doctor Who Confidential for a similar number of times. I occasionally get sucked in.

But it would be fair to describe me as somewhat cynical about all the Doctor Who hype which has recently boiled over into the faintly ridiculous. When someone breathlessly announced that the new Doctor Who would be announced today at 5.35pm I was heard to sarcastically mutter: "I'll get in an extra supply of padded underwear then".

But I am an old hit tart at heart. So when it became obvious that Matt Smith was the new Doctor, after "youngest ever" and "24 years old" hints dropped in the Doctor Who Confidential programme, I couldn't resist. It's all pointless really but I get a strange thrill from watching the old hitcounter clocking up.

It's 4095 for today as I write. For goodness sake, I got 8 hits in one second: 6:25:33 !! This is about 10 ten times more than when I almost had an orgasm watching all the hits for Sarah Palin's "affair"!

It's all testament to the huge, well deserved, popularity of Doctor Who and the almighty power of Google.
