The House of Commons - a different world

The Sun reports Nick Clegg calling for MPs to be limited to employing just one family member and for receipts to be produced for spending over £50.

These are sensible suggestions. But they are very mild. That mildness gives us yet another indication that MPs are living in a different world from the rest of us.

The rest of us (in most public companies) have to produce receipts for every expense.

The rest of us would be suspended immediately and indefinetly if we were alleged to have behaved inappropriately to our own financial benefit. (Not allowed to continue on full salary for two years like Derek Conway)

The rest of us would not be allowed to have anything to do with the employment of a family member or partner. Except in a privately owned family firm, the very idea that someone could set the pay rate of a spouse, partner or family member is outrageous!
