Energy-saving Google black screen version - Blackle
Due to a demand from energy conscious users, Google have created a new black screen version of their site called Blackle on www.blackle.com. If everybody used it instead of the white version, it is estimated that 750 mega watts/hour per year would be saved.

I don't think Google created that site - it looks like a company called Heap Media, using Google's search engine.
ReplyDeleteMore to the point, it will only save energy if your monitor is a CRT. If your have an LCD (flatscreen) then it doesn’t save energy (and may actually use slightly more).
ReplyDeleteEven with a black screen, a CRT uses far more energy than does an LCD.
Thank you Will
ReplyDeleteYes its not Google.
ReplyDeleteIts also a bit of a myth as anonymous pointed out.
i like the blackle concept!!!! recently while surfing i also found Blackle games; interesting concept: play games and save the world!!. WHat we really need to do is to stop being lazy and actually do our own work and reduce using machinery and wasting resources.
ReplyDeleteI'm using at the moment BLACKOOGLE, which is similar to blackle but offers a lot more functionality like image search, youtube search, mail access, etc. And looks nicer too, give it a try!
ReplyDeleteBlackoogle US
Blackoogle UK

ReplyDeleteThere are around 25 different versions of “black google” online. The best one I’ve found is www.cleanblack.com. Cleanblack is the only version that allows you to change the text colors of the google search results. Try it yourself by going to www.cleanblack.com/theme/
