What is it with Edgware Road Tube station?

I only ask because whenever I have gone through Edgware Road station on the circle/district line, the train ALWAYS stops for more than the average stop. Often this is for five minutes, or longer, or as long as 30 minutes on one occasion.

This only happens at Edgware road. Why? There must be some sort of technical reason for it, mustn't there? Is it where the "join" is in the Circle Line? I suppose a train line which goes round in a big circle must have a "join" somewhere....

Answers on a postcard please...

  1. I don't think it's that - the "joins" in the Circle Line are where the old Metropolitan and Metropolitan District Railways were connected (at South Kensington, and between Tower Hill and Aldgate).

As far as I know the timetable doesn't any scheduled extended stops there - although these do exist (at Aldgate and Kensington High Street).

It is however where a branch of the District line terminates, and where the Hammersmith & City Line joins the Circle Line - I could imagine either of those causing delays.

Even more confusingly, there are two stations called Edgware Road - the other is about 200m walk down the road on the Bakerloo line!

    Hope that helps. :D
