The 26 candidates in the Haltemprice and Howden by-election will not share a stage at the count after fears it could collapse under their combined weight.
That says it all, doesn't it? You couldn't make it up. Perhaps they ought to hold the result announcement in a circus - that would be fitting.
As a piece of irrelevant political trivia, I can add that at the 1993 Newbury by-election (which had one of the previous records for the number of candidates (19)) the result was announced from a balcony in open of the Newbury Racecourse buildings, rather than a stage. You really wanted to know that, didn't you?
