Only in the Netherlands...

In the Netherlands now you can't smoke tobacco in restaurants and cafes.

But, by a quirk of the law (not to say logic) which would only happen in that wonderful country, you can smoke pure cannabis spliffs. But not tobacco and cannabis mixed blend cigarettes - which are milder than the strong pure cannabis spliffs - the latter of which the government wants to discourage - but hasn't banned.

I love this quote in the Telegraph from Mark Jacobsen, chairman of the BCD, a nationwide association of coffee shop owners:

He said proper implementation of it would require inspectors to check each cannabis joint for tobacco content. He said: "It's absurd. In other countries they look to see whether you have marijuana in your cigarette, here they'll look to see if you've got cigarette in your marijuana."

The Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority, which is responsible for enforcing the ban, said it had trained around 200 inspectors.

A spokesman said: "They can tell the difference between a mix or a pure joint from its smell and appearance." The Dutch health minister, Ab Klink, said he hoped the law would help to rid the country of cannabis-induced idleness. "Consumers who spend the whole day hanging out in coffee shops will find other things to do," he said.

...like smoking the stronger pure cannabis spliffs instead of tobacco/cannabis mix ones.

Yeeeehhhhhs.

And I like the idea of 200 inspectors going around smelling spliffs. They will have a high old time.
