In typical swash-buckling style, Kelvin MacKenzie confirms in the Sun today that he is not standing at the Haltemprice and Howden by-election. Jonathan Calder carries a quote from the Birmingham Post which lists a number of minor candidates who are likely to be stand:

I come back to the point I made an hour after Davis announced he was resigining. He should be invoiced by the Speaker for publicity generated by this by-election. It is clearly the first stage of the publicity campaign for the launch of his memoirs.
