The Simpsons live in Vermont?

Vermont has been named as the official home of the Simpsons.

Bill Bryson's description of Vermont included this:

Vermont is Volvos and antique shops and country inns with cutely contrived names like Quail Hollow Lodge and Fiddlehead Farm Inn.

I can also remember the old "Bob Newhart show" which was "set" in a hotel in Vermont (photo).

So, to tell us now, after all these years, that the Simpsons have been living in the forested idyll of Vermont, where Bob Newhart seemed to spend his life closing the hotel door to stop the snow blowing in, takes some sinking in. But what do I know? I have never ventured across the Pond. So I suppose this is a bit like an American who has never been to England being surprised that London is not like it is in Mary Poppins.
